Samsung buys Sonio, an AI startup of France

South Korean tech giant Samsung's medical device division Samsung Medicine is planning to acquire an innovative startup of France, Sonio. Sonio is being acquired for about 92.7 million US dollars.

Samsung Medicines is one of the world's leading companies in the manufacturing of diagnostic imaging equipment. The company also develops artificial intelligence software for Sonio Ultrasound.

Sonio helps gynecologists and obstetricians store and document ultrasound exam data through artificial intelligence or AI technology. Sonio's various devices use algorithms through AI. Various devices from Sonio help improve the image quality of ultrasound scans.

Samsung Medicine said Sonio's software will further enhance the performance of Samsung's AI-powered imaging equipment. Samsung Electronics has about 69 percent stake in Samsung Madison. In 2011, Madison was acquired by Samsung for 22 million US dollars.

Sonio will continue to operate as an independent company even after the acquisition, Samsung said in a statement. It will conduct various tasks and researches commercially. And will work for products and services in France and various European countries.
